In an effort to ensure our newest Mustangs have the smoothest start possible, the beginning of their school year looks different than students in grades 1 - 6. Our kindergarten year begins with a parent-only orientation, followed by two half-days for students, and then one full day together as a class before teacher assignments are made. This gives all three kindergarten teachers an opportunity to observe each child's incoming kindergarten academic and social skills. Students will rotate between the three rooms in small groups engaging in learning stations as teachers and staff interact and assess their skills. Students will have the opportunity to go to recess for a short period of time to help staff see where each child is in their development of unstructured play. After these days are completed, teachers will meet and create balanced classes with the data they have collected from the previous days. In order to help teachers get to know your child a little better, please consider filling out this PARENT SURVEY to be included in the data that teachers are gathering.
Tuesday, August 11
- Kindergarten PARENT ONLY orientation from 9:30 - 10:30am (students do not attend)
- Please enter the building and head to the gym for this orientation. Join us to learn more about the Balanced Beginnings process and what to expect for your child's kindergarten year!
Wednesday, August 12 and Thursday, August 13
- Kindergarten students will come for a half day both days
- Students with the last name starting A-L will come in the morning from 9:30 - 11:30 on August 12, and then come in the afternoon from 12:30 - 2:30 on August 13.
- Students with the last name M-Z will come in the afternoon from 12:30 - 2:30 on August 12, and then come in the morning from 9:30 - 11:30 on August 13.
- Lunch will NOT be provided for the half-day sessions
- Please pack a snack and water bottle labeled with your child’s name for each day
- Our kindergarten teachers will meet you and your child at our new outdoor classroom to kick off each day
Friday, August 14
- All kindergarten students come to school from 9:30 - 2:30
- Please pack a snack, water bottle, and lunch labeled with your child’s name (unless they will be eating school lunch)
- You're welcome to drop off school supplies on this day
- Our kindergarten teachers will meet you and your child at our new outdoor classroom to kick off the day
- After school, teacher assignments will be sent home so you'll know your child's teacher before Monday!
Monday, August 17
- This is your kindergartener's first FULL DAY of school with their assigned teacher
- Normal school hours apply: doors open at 8:55am, dismissal at 4:00pm
- Please pack a snack, water bottle, and lunch labeled with your child’s name (unless they will be eating school lunch)
- Your child will walk in independently through the front doors, where staff will be available to assist any child as needed
- Per Flagstone school policy, parents do not enter the building until after all students are safely inside and the 9:15 tardy bell has rung, which helps ensure a smooth and safe start for all Mustangs
